Young Powers Oregon Ducks Past Oregon State With Twenty Seven Points
The Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers tipped off in front of a solid crowd on Saturday night at Matthew Knight Arena with over seventy-three hundred on hand.
The Ducks enterered the game coming off two overtime wins at 10-3, the Beavers equally impressive at 9-3.
Oregon would win the opening tip but was unable to convert, but it did not take long as Joseph Young hit a three on Oregon’s next possession to set an early tone for the Ducks, but two early travel calls would lead to two turnovers in the first three minutes of play. Oregon State would come away empty and Young would pick up his first steal of the game for an easy two points giving Oregon a 5-0 lead.

The Oregon State Beavers would pick up key fouls in the first few minutes including two fouls on star Gary Payton II. The Beavers were held scorliess through the first five minutes of the game before Victor Robbins hit a two pointer for OSU. Oregon had an eight point lead.
Oregon State would creep their way back into the game with free throws making it 20-11 with just over six minutes left in the first half. Langston Morris-Walker would hit a three point shot to pull the Beavers within five at 23-18 with 4:28 to go in the first half.

Free throws kept Oregon State in the game. At three minutes left in the first half the Beavers shot nine of ten from the free throw line. Oregon was four for six. Gary Payton would put in two points and immediately Joseph Young would answer with a lay-in on the other end. Payton would add another basket pulling Oregon State within two with just over a minute to go in the first half. An Oregon travel call would tack on another turnover for the Ducks in the half and give Oregon State the ball.
Walker would tie the game with under a minute to go, but Young would again answer with a two point shot. Oregon would take the lead into the half at 29-27.
Free point shooting kept Oregon State in the game for most of the first half as they team went ten for twelve from the line. To end the first half Gary Payton also warmed up. The Ducks and Beavers each had eighteen rebounds in the first half.
Joseph Young would start the second half with a hot hand providing some separation. After Oregon State tied the game Young hit two free throwns and a three point shot to give Oregon a 34-29 lead. Young and Jordan Bell would extend the Ducks lead to 46-25. Young would have twenty-four points on the night and there was still plenty of time to play.
Elgin Cook would add to the Oregon Ducks lead with a quick two points off a steal and a pair of free throws to help extend the lead to 56-39, but Oregon State would fight back with Gary Payton hitting a two to make it 56-41. Again, Oregon State would not go away, but in the clutch it was Young, Cook and Brooks hitting shots or free throws to keep Oregon ahead.
For the game Joseph Young had twenty seven points. Elgin Cook put in eighteen points. Jordan Bell led the defensive effort with nine rebounds. The Ducks won their eleventh game this season and first in the Conference 71-59 and shot forty-nine percent from the floor for the game. The road ahead does not get easier but harder.
