NFL Draft Predictors Making a Mockery of Marcus Mariota

During the season Marcus Mariota was projected as the top pick in the NFL Draft this year. This was before he and his teammates won the Pac-12, the Rose Bowl and fell in the National Championship. Mariota was injured in the National Championship game and decided to not play in the Senior Bowl a few weeks ago.

With the NFL Draft a few months away Mariota is falling on multiple draft boards with Florida State Quarterback Jameis Winston now taking over the top selection. There are many that would love to see the former Oregon Ducks Quarterback in Philadelphia, however one prediction has him playing in another green and white uniform, for the New York Jets with the number six pick. The Jets would be intriguing, but I’m not sure you can sit Mariota for a season with a clipboard in his hand sitting behind Geno Smith. The New York Jets are also under a new head coach in Ted Bowles.

Todd McShay from ESPN also has Mariota falling to the number six spot to the New York Jets. The former Oregon QB will have a chance to improve his stock with a Pro Day at Oregon and also a good performance at the NFL Combine later this month. He is among seven Oregon players to receive invites and will likely be in Indanapolis. If he is not able to throw his NFL Draft stock may fall further, but at this point is that such a bad thing?

The farther he falls the greater the chance it will be that Mariota will play for Philadelphia who would likely not pass him up if he dropped to the twentieth pick. If he falls out of the top ten Chip Kelly will also not have to give up so much to get him. The Eagles are currently working scenerios where they could land Mariota even if her were to stay in the Top ten.

The 2015 NFL Draft begins on Thursday April 30th and will conclude on Saturday May 2nd.
