Altman and Young have played key roles down the stretch as the Ducks have won nine of the their last ten games including a three point win to close out the regular season at Oregon State in Corvallis and also winning games in the Bay Area against Stanford and Cal for the first time since 1976.
Young had the final possession against Oregon State and also against Stanford last week. Altman has again shown that he can coach.
Altman has put together a team at the beginning of the season thad had never played together and turned them into an NCAA Tournament team in just one season with Young being a key leader. Others have stepped up as well including Dwayne Benjamin and Dillon Brooks.
Young over the last month has averaged over twenty-five points per game for Oregon and finished the regular season leading the league in free throw percentage hitting over ninety one percent of his shots. In two seasons in Eugene, Young has scored 1,257 points in an Oregon Uniform. He has over twenty-one hundred points in two seasons. (2,173).
Altman is equally deserving of recognition taking teams over the last few years from Pac-12 Media ranked bottom dwellers – typically in the bottom four or five, to Pac-12 Title Contenders. Oregon finished the regular season ranked second in the conference and are primed for a Pac-12 Tournament run and an NCAA Tournament Berth.
Oregon now has four days to get set for the Pac-12 Tournament that will begin for them on Friday against either Colorado or Oregon State. (Friday, 6pm PT)
