Pac-12 Tournament: Young Scores Thirty For Oregon in Win Over Colorado

It was not the start that the Oregon Ducks wanted in their Semi-Final Second Round Game to start the Pac-12 Tournament on Thursday night, but as it has gone several times this season it is not how you start, but how you finish and Oregon finished with a flourish. In the second half Oregon scored fifty-nine points to put away a pesky Colorado team that had the lead through much of the first half. Dana Altman saw his team pull out the win 93-85 to move on to a Friday night matchup with Utah.

One player has paced Oregon all season and he stepped up again on Thursday. Senior Joseph Young had a slow start in the first half, but lit up the Buffs in the second half finishing the game with thirty points. The Ducks scored twenty-seven points off thirteen Colorado turnovers. Young was three for ten in the first half and nine for twelve in the second.

The Oregon Ducks beat the Utes in their lone meeting in the regular season at Matthew Knight Arena on February 22nd, which was their final home game of the season. With each win the Oregon Ducks are helping their RPI. The Ducks  are currently in the top thirty at twenty-ninth. Another Oregon victory against Utah, still a ranked team at seventeen, may be enough to get them into the Top 25 rankings entering the NCAA Tournament.

Of course a win on Friday will get them to the Championship Game of the Pac-12 Tournament on Saturday against one of the teams on the other Quarterfinal on Friday night between UCLA and Arizona. The next round awaits and Oregon will face Utah on Friday night at 8:30pm Pacific Time on ESPN.
