Oregon announced plans to build Blue Ribbon and Waffle Iron Beach at Autzen Stadium. In the ever changing world of college athletics and marketing Nike and the University of Oregon have been ahead of every curve. An announcement expected for later this afternoon will see the tandem team up again for one of the most revolutionary and expensive ideas ever. Nike will literally reshape the landscape to brand Autzen and the Ducks “Nike U.”

The University of Oregon will reroute the Patterson Slough (The offshoot of the Willamette River that runs directly in front of Autzen) creating a swoosh that will be surrounded by beaches. The beaches will feature food stands and be used for tail gaiting and will have hours throughout the week during the summer. They will be named after Nike’s original name, Blue Ribbon Sports and one of the most famous shoes Nike has ever created the Waffle Racer made using a waffle iron.

Nike has been trying to reach an agreement with state legislators for nearly ten years. It took a final push from the University of Oregon to get the city zoning planners to bypass the state red tape. Eugene city planners meeting decided rezoning the district as an Entertainment District would let it clear any necessary state hurdles.

Nike released this statement “At Nike we are constantly striving to build our brand. The University of Oregon has been a magnificent champion of our brand, and the football program has been a remarkable ambassador for Nike and the state of Oregon. Nike wouldn’t be Nike without the University of Oregon, this opportunity allows this partnership to have a permanent and lasting landmark”

When asked why they’ve decided to announce this today the University of Oregon responded by saying “The University of Oregon and Nike are very excited about this project. We couldn’t think of a better day to announce this then April 1st, 2015 for obvious reasons.”
