Oregon Ducks Earn Key Win vs UCLA With Craig-St. Louis Eleventh Inning Walk Off

The Oregon Ducks post season hopes may well have hung in the balance on Saturday as George Horton saw his team face second ranked UCLA. Starter David Peterson pitched a solid game for the Ducks giving up one run off four hits and just two walks in six plus innings. It was again up to the Oegon bullpen to help hold the lead. They didn’t.  Peterson left with a slim 1-0 advantage and Cooper Stiles gave up a three run home run giving the Bruins a 3-1 lead, Oregon showed some fight and came back to win the game in extra inning 4-3 evening the series.

Oregon Closer Garrett Cleavinger came in and shut down UCLA and is now 5-2 this season. It was Mark Karaviotis who was the hero for the Oregon Ducks. His two-hundredth career at-bat was a three run home run that gave the Ducks a three run lead 4-3, but UCLA would tie the game 4-4 before Oregon had the final say in the outcome. The Ducks would load the bases in the eleventh and Phil Craig-St Louis would give Oregon a 5-4 walkoff win over UCLA.

The Oregon Ducks have showed plenty of fight in the series and the score has been close. On Friday they had a chance to win or tie the game in the end, but two strikouts by UCLA pitching gave the Bruins the win. Saturday went Oregon’s way and I believe they have done enough to warrant an invite to the post season. Sunday may see some history with Oregon and UCLA.

The Bruins have not lost a Pac-12 series this season and an Oregon win would break a season long streak by th Bruins. The series and season is Sunday at Noon at PK Park.
