Notre Dame Offensive Lineman Matt Hegarty Transfers To Oregon
Matt Hegarty will likely be snapping to Vernon Adams next season as he becomes the second transfer player eligible immediately to play for the Ducks in 2015. He will have one season with Oregon as a graduate transfer. The highly anticipated and publicized transfer of Adams was announced much earlier this offseason, but while the Ducks are still waiting for him to graduate and fly south to Eugene (horrible pun intended) rumblings began to surface that the Ducks could be adding something big this week.
According to Notre Dame’s profile on Hegarty he’s 6’4.5″ and weighs nearly 300 lbs so “big” is an understatement. It is expected Hegarty will compete and likely be the front runner for the center position for the upcoming 2015 season.

With the departure and graduation of Hroniss Grasu, one of the more decorated to play the position as an Oregon Duck, Hegarty will be looked to as a likely starter to sure up the Offensive line. As they did when Grasu was injured, Oregon did an admirable job of shuffling lineman throughout the regular season in 2014. Hegarty would allow players like Tyler Johnstone and Cameron Hunt to focus as relief on the line rather than a primary player in a key position. With Jeff Lockie and Vernon Adams battling for the Quarterback position, the Ducks helped their Offensive Line with an experienced player that will go a long way in protecting whoever is behind the Center when the 2015 season starts.
Oregon officially kicks off the 2015 regular season hosting Eastern Washington on Saturday, September 5th.
