The second week of the upcoming College Football season promises to have some fireworks and for Oregon fans, September 12th has been circled on the calendar since last season when the Michigan State Spartans came to Eugene, put up a good fight, but lost to the Oregon Ducks in the end. This time it’s different and on several levels.

Oregon enters the season without Quarterback Marcus Mariota at the helm, but they do have one of the most complete group of Wide Receivers in the Pac-12, possibly in the entire country for one of two men to throw to. It will either be Jeff Lockie, Mariota’s backup the last few seasons who knows the offense and had a very solid Spring Game for the Oregon Ducks a few months ago or Transfer Vernon Adams, whose status is still somewhat up in the air. If he is available the game with Michigan State could be an early season Heisman moment for the Eastern Washington transfer.
ESPN, on their annual ‘Ultimate Road Trip’ listed the Oregon Ducks and Michigan State Spartans matchup as their choice for the game not to be missed. It will not only be a possible preview for the College Football Playoff, but also a likely Top Ten matchup, as well as the non-conference game of the year in the Pac-12. The winner will have a big leg-up on the College Football Playoff, the loser will have plenty of time to makeup for the early season stumble.
Oregon and Michigan State take the field in East Lansing on Saturday, September 12th at 5pm Pacific Time. It is the Game of the Week on ABC.
