Two future members of the Oregon Women’s Basketball team are taking part in the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championships in Russia according to GoDucks.com . Incoming Freshman Maite Cazorla and Lauren Yearwood both played roles in games for their respective countries. Cazorla played for Spain, Yearwood for her native Canada. Both will be in Eugene playing for the Oregon Ducks following a summer of experience playing on the International Stage. Not a bad way to begin your career in College.

In the opening game on Saturday for Canada against Mali, Yearwood had ten points to go along with seven rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot. Cazorla had four assists in twelve minutes in Spain’s opening loss against the United States. On Sunday, Canada lost to France 58-54. Yearwood had another solid performance going six for nine from the floor for seventeen points in thirty minutes. She also went five for eight from the free throw line to go with two rebounds and two blocked shots for Team Canada.
The Championship runs through July 26th. Games are live streamed from Russia on the FIBA YouTube Channel. The next game for Canada is Tuesday when the take on Belgium at 3:30am Pacific Time. Spain takes on Egypt on Sunday morning and will face China on Tuesday (10:15am). The Round of sixteen begins play on Tuesday, with quarterfinals on Friday leading to the Championship Game next Sunday.
