ESPN Football Power Index: Oregon Ducks Should Roll Over Eastern Washington

Last month we talked about the ESPN College Football Power Index and broke down the numbers, many of which were in favor of the Oregon Ducks in 2015. As Fall Camp is set to begin, ESPN has taken a deeper look into the FPI and put together the schedule breakdown for the upcoming season. Two of the results were rather startling to me. The first one right off the top.

According to the Index, Oregon has a 99.9 percent chance of winning their home opener against Eastern Washington, regardless of who is playing Quarterback. The rest of the non-conference slate, which includes a game on the road at Michigan State appear to be a little harder. The Oregon Ducks lowest chance of winning, at 49 percent is on the road against the Spartans on September 12th. If they lose that game a cupcake awaits at home the following week in Georgia State, which has Oregon as a 99 percent favorite. Following Georgia State, the Pac-12 schedule appears pretty favorable for Mark Helfrich and Company.

Six of the remaining nine games on the schedule for Oregon have over an 80 percent chance of an Ducks victory. Of those games, two are over ninety percent with Washington State at 92 percent, and Oregon State to close out the regular season at 96 percent. Games at Stanford and hosting USC appear to be the biggest challenges on the 2015 schedule. The game with the Trojans could be a shootout. The winner may or may not have the upper hand on the Conference considering the two teams may face each other again for the Pac-12 Conference crown in December.

The Oregon Ducks begin the regular season on Saturday, September 5th hosting Eastern Washington at 5pm Pacific Time on Pac-12 Networks.
