The National Football League regular season begins today. Heisman Trophy Winner and Oregon Ducks Alum Marcus Mariota takes the reigns as Starter for the Tennessee Titans against First Round Number One Pick Jameis Winston with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Who has the edge in this one? There are plenty of opinions to go around.
The Tennessean breaks down the National analysis after the NFL Preseason and the folks at ESPN like Mariota for his running ability. Phil Simms from CBS sees both as franchise quarterbacks but is waiting to see how things pan out before making the ultimate decision on who looks better. Of course, Oregon fans know what Mariota can do in rolling out and passing on the run. Several in the NFL were wowed by this aspect of his game and said he looks like he had been doing it for years following the second preseason game.
Winston on the other hand is dealing with a young offensive line. He was sacked seven times in the NFL Preseason. Mariota was sacked as well, the most memorable against Kansas City. Consistency seems to be the name of the game for both Rookie Quarterbacks.
I’ll be watching Winston’s Offensive Line and the Titans Wideouts and Running Backs to get open for Mariota. Following a rough outing against Atlanta, Marcus Mariota rebounded to throw for seventy percent completion on his passes to close out the NFL Preseason.
Marcus Mariota and Tennessee visit Tampa Bay on Sunday for a 1:25pm Pacific Time kickoff.
