Freshman Quarterback Travis Jonsen is expected to miss the remainder of the 2015 season following what is being called a medical procedure according to Andrew Greif from the Oregonian. Jonsen was fifth on the depth chart and just on the outside looking in and was likely in line to Redshirt his Freshman season prior to the injury. Jonsen was a four star prospect out of Anaheim California and signed with the Oregon Ducks in March.
With Jonsen out for the season, Greif can see another Quarterback picking up valuable reps in practice and getting more comfortable with the Oregon Ducks Offense and I agree with him.. Morgan Mahalak will have an opportunity to possibly be in line for playing time next season and beyond. Following the departure of Marcus Mariota to the NFL, Oregon has Transfer Vernon Adams for one season and after 2015, the question at Quarterback will likely dominate the upcoming off season story lines for the Oregon Ducks entering next season.
"Had a bizarre thing … nothing weird or anything, but medically he’s out for the year, had to have a procedure that will unfortunately, he’ll be out this year and will redshirt and utilize that.Oregon Head Coach Mark Helfrich on Quarterback Travis Jonsen (via The Oregonian)"
Oregon already has a small question at the Quarterback position this season with Starter Vernon Adams recovering from a broken index finger. Last week, Backup Jeff Lockie picked up his first career start and threw two touchdowns in a win over Georgia State. This week, Oregon is mum on who will get the start as Pac-12 play begins with Utah on Saturday. The Utes also have a Backup who picked up a win last weekend in Kendal Thompson. Starter Travis Wilson may get the ball this week after recovering from a shoulder injury earlier this season.
Oregon and Utah take the field at Autzen Stadium for a 5:45pm kickoff Saturday on FOX.
