Former Oregon Duck Point Guard Joseph Young impressed in the NBA Summer League, the big question then was could his game translate to the bigger stage. On Tuesday the question was answered, perhaps not completely, but it was in the direction of a positive response. According to RotoWorld.com, the former Oregon Star came off the bench to put in 18 points in just 23 minutes. For a player that is likely looking at the third or fourth spot behind two Starters in Rodney Stuckey and Monta Ellis on the roster, Young will have to perfect his game in other areas and push for playing time in 2015. His preseason debut was impressive.
Aside from the points scored he was 7 for 7 from the free throw line, hit five of ten from the floor and also had two rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 115-112 win over the Detroit Pistons. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the preseason pans out for Joseph Young. If he can continue his high level of play, cracking the starting roster or more likely becoming a key player on a young and hungry Pacers team will be very likely for him. An injury to George Hill is what allowed Young to have a solid performance on Tuesday night. If Indiana can replace a player who had a twenty point performance with an eighteen point performance along with the additional pieces that Young brings to his game, Indiana could have a really good season in 2015.
Up next for the Pacers and Joseph Young, a trip to Orlando on Thursday for a 4pm Pacific Time tipoff as the NBA Preseason Continues.
