Marcus Mariota and the Titans Look To Get Back On Winning Track vs Miami Dolphins

Two teams at the bottom of the AFC Standings will face off in Nashville on Sunday afternoon. The Miami Dolphins come in after adding Ndamokong Suh as a big offseason acquisition that was supposed to help the Dolphins become one of the better Defensive units in the National Football League. That has not worked out and not only are they 1-3, but they fired their Head Coach Joe Philbin. Tennessee found their way to 1-3 in what can simply be called growing pains for their young Quarterback..

Marcus Mariota has had moments of brilliance including starting his Rookie Season throwing for four touchdowns against Tampa Bay and being named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month. He has also had setbacks, against Cleveland the following week he was sacked seven times. He had a chance to complete a comeback against Indianapolis, but was unable to convert a two point conversion and last weekend had an opportunity against the Buffalo Bills, but threw a game losing interception in the final minutes. Growing pains.

Now that Marcus Mariota and the team have had a bye to digest things and process, the Miami Dolphins come to town in what appears worse shape that the Tennessee Titans. Mariota is setting a 25 points per game pace this season for Tennessee, good enough to put them in the top ten for scoring. As a team they are averaging just over 350 yards per game. The game on Sunday will mark the third straight home game for the Titans. Mariota has over one-thousand yards passing on the season and will look to his top target Kendall Wright on Sunday who has sixteen catches for over 260 yards to go with two touchdowns. Bishop Sankey leads a respectable run game for the Titans averaging over 118 yards per game.

The Miami Dolphins enter averaging 16 points per game, but Quarterback Ryan Tannehill can throw the ball around. He also has over 1000 yards on the season through the air. Both teams won their season opener and have lost three in a row. The Dolphins average 315 yards through the air and have a pretty non-existent run game at just under 70 yards per contest. Rishard Matthews provides the cushion for Tannehill. He has three touchdowns on the year and leads the team in receiving yards with 278.

Miami has given up just under 400 yards per game on Offense, with the Titans coming in at 380 yards which on paper makes this a fairly even matchup. Only one team will get to two wins today and I believe that Mariota could be the factor that gets the Tennessee Titans there. He is rested and recovered coming off a bye week and should be crisp and ready to go.
