While the Oregon Ducks Football team has won three games in a row the Men’s Basketball team is getting a final tuneup before the start of their 2015-16 Regular season. Last week they took care of business against visiting Northwest Christian University and Sunday night they welcomed visiting Southern Oregon before their season opener against Jackson State on Friday night.
Two players that are expected to see the floor this season will be absent once again. Dylan Ennis, the transfer from Villanova and Shot Blocker Jordan Bell will not be on the floor for the Oregon Ducks. Both are recovering from foot injuries and it is already known both will likely be out through the month of December. So what to do for Head Coach Dana Altman? Improvise as only he can with the talent he has on the court. Against Northwest Christian Dylan Brooks had a double double with 26 points and 11 rebounds.
Oregon would win the tipoff and the leader in blocked shots against Northwest Christian, Chris Boucher quickly went to work off the glass for rebounds. He also led in points a large part of the first half with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Dwayne Benjamin had a steal and a thrown down bucket to take the scoring lead at 13 entering the locker room. The Ducks hit 43 percent from the floor in the first half, but like the first game are not doing much from three point range. At the half they were 2 of 12 from beyond the arc.
Oregon topped Southern Oregon 91-40 and clamped down in the second half. For the game they hit 46 percent from the floor and had 30 points off turnovers to go with a strong 37 points from their bench on the night. One area of concern is from three point range where Oregon was just 16 percent shooting on the night.
"I liked his activity. He is playing hard, he does that in practice…that kind of activity is what he has been getting us. He is playing hard, really coachable. He’s a big part of our team.Oregon Head Coach Dana Altman on the play of Chris Boucher"
Tyler Dorsey and Dwayne Benjamin each had 16 points for the Ducks. Chris Boucher had a double double with 13 points to go along with 14 rebounds and 5 blocks on Southern Oregon. The team now has six days to prepare for the start of the regular season against Jackson State on Friday night to start the Global Sports Shootout.
