Oregon Ducks Get Defensive Against Stanford Cardinal For Road Win

Oregon Ducks vs Stanford Cardinal Final Report
Ducks Defense Takes Down Cardinal On The Farm

Revenge, Payback, whatever you want to call it, it will be a dogfight on Saturday night when the Oregon Ducks visit Stanford on the Farm in Palo Alto. On the line -plenty. A Stanford win gives them the Pac-12 North. An Oregon win gives them the tie breaker over the Cardinal, but Mark Helfrich and company will need Kevin Hogan and Company to lose another Conference game this season and time is running out. Following today the final Pac-12 game for Stanford is Cal at home next weekend. If the Ducks can beat Stanford and Cal beats Stanford that is the best outcome for Vernon Adams and the Oregon Ducks having a chance to get to the Pac-12 Title Game(winning out of course).

More from Autzen Zoo

USC comes to Autzen Stadium next weekend, but first the 8-1 Stanford Cardinal and one of the country’s best players in Christian McCaffrey welcome Oregon to the Farm.

This is the sixth straight meeting with meaning for these two teams with each getting their revenge over the other over the last few years. This time, it is the Oregon Ducks shot at revenge and to knock the Cardinal out of College Football Playoff Contention. Quarterback Vernon Adams and the Ducks are on a roll, winning three straight games, two of them on the road. In fact, the Oregon Ducks have yet to lose a Pac-12 road game this season and have some momentum going into this one.

Must Read: Oregon vs Stanford: Three Things I’ll Be Watching – Autzen Zoo

The Oregon Ducks have found a secret weapon on Offense this season. I am not talking about Quarterback Vernon Adams, but Wide Receiver Darren Carrington. He was not eligible for the first part of the season but has made his presence known for the 2015 Oregon Ducks. Adams and Carrington’s connection has helped extend the longest passing touchdown streak in the country to 72 straight games for Oregon. The mark is a growing NCAA Record. Stanford has a weapon of their own in Christian McCaffrey who has already been talked about as a possible Heisman Candidate for the Pac-12 Conference this season.

McCaffrey can not only run, but can receive as well. He has over 1000 yards on the ground this season. Oregon will counter with Royce Freeman who is also leading his team with over 1000 yards on the ground for 2015. Stanford will look to slow down the game with a ground and pound style to work the clock. Oregon will look to fly. Something has to give in this battle and it will all start up front with the Offensive and Defensive Line for both teams respectively.

DeForest Bucker will look to get to Kevin Hogan and while the Stanford Cardinal Defense is not what it once was, it still has plenty of talent to make plays difficult for the Oregon Offense and Quarterback Vernon Adams. The Ducks O had two 100 yard rushers last weekend vs Cal in Royce Freeman and Tony Brooks James. The Stanford Defense has allowed conversions on 60 percent of opponents plays. In looking at Red Zone Defense opponents are allowed to score over 85 percent of the time.

Stanford Senior Blake Martinez leads the Pac-12 Conference with over 10 tackles per game and will be one to keep an eye on Saturday night. For Oregon to win they will have to control the line of scrimmage and Vernon Adams and Company will likely have to complete an explosion play or two. Something on Special teams could also be key to the outcome on either side of the ball so watch McCaffrey if they use him as a return man.

Autzen Zoo will begin coverage of the Oregon Ducks starting at 3:30pm Pacific Time. Kickoff is set for 4:30pm on FOX.
