On Friday night, the Oregon Ducks Men’s Basketball had a strong start against Savannah State, but became inconsistent in the second half. They were never in danger of losing the game, but missed free throws and missed shots made it a closer contest. The Ducks could not play that game on Sunday afternoon against Valparaiso. In fact, they played opposite and finished strong. The Crusaders came in on a 5-0 hot streak and were looking for an upset. They played tough and forced Oregon to step up their game. It was the first time this season that Oregon did not have the lead going into halftime as Valpo led by 3 points, 35-33 at the break.

The second half start was all Oregon as Dylan Brooks picked up eight points for the Ducks to start the second half. Both teams hit three pointers and were not willing to give up the fight, but the Oregon Defense finally figured it out and went on a 12 point run that would ultimately be enough, with key free throw shooting as the game wound down to get the home team to a 4-0 start to the season.

The 25th ranked Oregon Ducks had three players in double figures for the game. Dylan Brooks had 26 points and 13 rebounds for a double double. Tyler Dorsey added 21, and Chris Boucher fought for 8 of his 9 rebounds to go with 3 blocks. He had three points for the game. It was the Defense that won the game for Oregon. Boucher was the game changer and also changed other shots in the game. Oregon came up with key stops and had their transition game working. Some of those stops led to easy two points put ins on the other end of the floor.

Oregon shot 44 percent from the floor for the game, but over 25 percent from three point range, their highest percentage of the year so far. Valpo finished hitting 43 percent from the floor and 30 percent from beyond the arc. There were 15 lead changes in the game. The Ducks also had 9 steals in the game, but had 13 turnovers. Valpo had 16 turnovers giving up 16 points of them.
