After watching this season unfold for the Oregon Women’s Volleyball team that saw a season start for the first month on the road and 9-6 record to start the season, it would have been easy to say halfway through the season that the Oregon Ducks were not an NCAA Tournament team in 2015, but wins late in the year against UCLA and valiant efforts against Washington and USC down the stretch put them back into the NCAA Tournament after salvaging the season with a 5-5 record at home in the Pac-12.
The Oregon Ducks faced adversity with many different faces this season and pushed through it, even changing up their scheme to a 6-2 down the stretch where the found more success than failure. Facing Wisconsin in the first round of the NCAA Tournament proved to be a tough task, but Jim Moore’s team tried their best.
Down a set at the start, Oregon had their backs against the wall and went on an 11-4 run to take the second set from the Badgerts tying the match 1-1. Wisconsin would take the third set, and Oregon would find themselves within two points in the final set of the match before experience turned the tide for Wisconsin and gave them the win in the match. The Ducks season came to a close with a 16-14 record for 2015 and something to build on for the future.
It is moments like this that for a young team can mean more than the season in some cases. The experience of playing in a post season game can give players something to get back to next season. With three Freshman, including Lindsey Vander Weide who will easily become one of the best in the Pac-12 in the years to come, the Oregon Ducks are in very good hands. For the match against Wisconsin Taylor Agost has some flashes and hit at a .458 clip for the match.
"This year was a great year for us just being able to come back and get in the tournament. From here on out I think we can only get better. I look forward to the next three years, getting to the tournament against and going a lot further.Freshman Lindsay Vander Weide looking ahead to the future. (via GoDucks.com)"
