The Oregon Ducks lost to the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels on Friday night thanks in part to a three point barrage to start the game that Oregon could not recover from. They were able to pull within 5 before former Oregon Duck Ben Carter hit two free throws to seal the game for UNLV.
Former Oregon Ducks player Ben Carter and UNLV were on the right end of the score on Friday night hosting Oregon at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. To start the night 17 teams were undefeated. That number is now down to 16 with Dana Altman’s team falling to the Runnin’ Rebels. The storyline of the night could have been much worse the loss of the game as Freshman Tyler Dorsey went down awkwardly in the second half as he twisted his knee and leg a way that that part of the body is not supposed to bend.

Dorsey went to the locker room, but returned to the floor and the game and had a slight limp, but appeared okay. The situation will be worth watching in the coming days as Oregon heads to Hawaii to take on Navy on Monday. Overall, it was a hard fought game. The Runnin’ Rebels did just that to start the game firing off multiple three point shots that when the Oregon Ducks adjusted their Defense found themselves down 12 points. UNLV did run their lead to 20 points, but Oregon battled and closed to within 5 in the final six minutes of regulation.
Dwayne Benjamin paced Oregon and the comeback in the second half landing key three pointers when they were needed. He hit five of eight shots from beyond the arc for the game. Four players for the Ducks scored in double figures with Benjamin leading the way with 21. Tyler Dorsey had 13, Dylan Brooks finished with 11 and Chris Boucher fouled out and finished the game with 10. Boucher also had 11 rebounds and two blocks against UNLV.
UNLV hit 50 percent from three point range in the first half to build a commanding lead at 47-33 at the half and kept it going with the crowd behind them in the second half. Ike Nwamu hit 5 of 7 of those three point shots as the Runnin’ Rebels took the ball from the start and never looked back. Oregon will look to regroup as the road trip continues against Navy on Monday in Pearl Harbor.
