The Oregon Women’s Basketball team has everything firing on all cylinders so far in 2015. Senior Jillian Alleyne appears unstoppable, Maite Cazorla has come into her own as a player and a three point machine, and the scariest part – Head Coach Kelly Graves is in just his second season with the program. Oregon did not have this kind of success in Women’s Basketball before this season in quite some time. On Saturday the opponent was Utah Valley, who had the upper hand early before the Oregon Ducks fought back.
Oregon went on an 11-3 run late in the second quarter to take the lead at halftime 42-37. For the game Alleyne had 22 points and 19 rebounds to lead four players in double figures for the Ducks. Oregon hit just 7 of 23 from beyond the arc, but Cazorla and Jordan Loera combined hit four of those shots. Alleyne hit 11 of her 15 shots and the Ducks hit 50 percent from the floor for the game. Utah Valley was held to 44 percent. Aside from the Offense, the Oregon Ducks Defense also stood tall.
Cazorla forced 4 steals and Alleyne had 3 blocks on the afternoon. Oregon took 12 Utah Valley turnovers and turned them into 19 points for one of their most efficient games of the season in the category. The non-conference schedule is winding down as the Pac-12 seaosn is right around the corner.
