Oregon Ducks Baseball Announces Challenging 2016 Schedule

The University of Oregon has announced the schedule for the Oregon Ducks Baseball team for the upcoming 2016 season. Aside from the Pac-12, Oregon will face teams from the Big Ten and SEC.

On the cusp of the Major League Baseball Winter Meetings, the Oregon Ducks announced their 2016 schedule of games that features the usual challenges from the Pac-12 slate, as well as some big non-conference games against opponents that were a part of the NCAA Tournament last season. The Oregon Ducks welcome back Starter Cole Irvin for his Senior season following Tommy John Surgery from a year ago along with Matt Krook also returning from Tommy John Surgery. Stephen Nagosek will return in middle relief.

There are some new faces on Offense this season to go along with Garrett Cleavinger, Mitchell Tolman and Phil Craig-St Louis to name a few. The Oregon Ducks will play 56 games this season with 27 of them in the friendly confines of PK Park. 24 of them will be against teams that made the NCAA Tournament in 2015 according to GoDucks.com

Here are some of the schedule highlights for the upcoming season:

  • The season begins on February 19th with a three game series on the road in San Diego
  • The first homestand of the year begins on Thursday February 25th which starts a two team 7 game non-conference at PK Park with Illinois State and UC Santa Barbara
  • Oregon will face Alabama and Mississippi State for single games on the road as well as a game at Notre Dame and three at Michigan State.
  • The Ducks will finish the season with a three game slate on the road at Stanford which could be a key series for the post season.

San Diego State will be a switch from starting the season in Hawaii as the Oregon Baseball team has done the last few seasons. The first home game at PK Park is Thursday, February 25th as Oregon hosts Illinois State. First pitch is set for 6pm Pacific Time.
