Athlon Sports has done something that many College Football fans would love to actually have happen in the world of the College Football Playoff..but most likely never will. They have taken the top 68 teams, in the style of March Madness and broken it down by region. The Oregon Ducks are a 4 seed and the Pac-12 is well represented.

Until last year it was the imperfect BCS that ruled the roost when it came to College Football and the never ending quest to find a true ‘two top teams’ matchup. Following years of debate that led to the College Football Playoff that began last season and continues with the top four teams butting heads to find a true National Champion. The folks at Athlon Sports have taken the idea of the College Football Playoff to a whole other level and broke down the College Football Top 25 and beyond into a March Madness-esque 68 team breakdown including the four East, West, North and South Regions.

While this will likely never happen in College Football the matchups are intriguing to look at and one can dream right?

Here are some of the highlights in looking at the Oregon Ducks and the Pac-12 Conference:

  • Washington(8) along with Cal(1) and UCLA(7) in the East region. The Golden Bears and Bruins would face each other in the first round.
  • USC is in the South Region along with Baylor and Alabama(likely the toughest region to get through)
  • The Oregon Ducks are a 4 seed in the Midwest and would face South Florida in the first round. Florida State(3) and Oklahoma(1) would likely be the Oregon Ducks next draw
  • Washington State (13), Arizona State(12), and Stanford(2) round out the West Region with Michigan State as the top seed.
