Oregon Ducks Survive Three Point Barrage From Long Beach State

Oregon, now 8-0 at Matthew Knight Arena in 2015 pulled away in the 4th Quarter hitting over 90 percent of their free throws for the game. Six Oregon players scored in double figures in a 94-73 win over Long Beach State.

The 49ers shot the ball well from three point range going in. Entering the game with Oregon the first ten minutes saw Travis Hammonds land two three point shots pulling to within one point of the Oregon 12-11 lead. Tyler Dorsey found himself back in the Starting lineup for the first time since an injury scare against UNLV.

Elgin Cook found himself in early foul trouble with two fouls in the first five minutes of action. If there was a game where the Oregon Ducks could get into early foul trouble it was against the 49ers. Dana Altman had a far superior bench than Long Beach State. Jordan Bell and Dylan Brooks built the Oregon lead to 19-14 before Long Beach State and Travis Hammonds hit his fourth 3 pointer of the game with just over 10 minutes left in the first half.

Long Beach State would pull to within one of the lead 28-27 when Noel Blackwell hit the 49ers 5th three of the first half, but Tyler Dorsey would hit his second three point shot of the game with an assist from Dwayne Benson extending the Oregon lead to 31-29. Dillon Brooks would push the Ducks lead back to 4. The 49ers would not go away as Elgin Cook would pick up his third foul with one minute left in the first half.

Long Beach State would pull within one of the lead again 40-39 as the 49er would have the last shot, but Chris Boucher would be near the rim with a block as the teams headed to the locker room for the break.

The Oregon Ducks had five blocks and five steals in the first half against the 49ers. The Ducks landed five 3 point shots compared to Long Beach State hitting at 50 percent with 7 of 14 for the game.

Elgin Cook would inbound the ball for Oregon to start the second half, but Long Beach State would take the lead 45-42 just ninety seconds in. The 49ers would push their lead to 8 points before Dana Altman called a timeout.

Dillon Brooks would single handedly bring Oregon back with a three pointer followed by a jump shot to pull Oregon within one of the lead with just over 15 minutes left in the game. Oregon would go on a 9-0 run over four minutes while Long Beach State would find a scoring drought over the same period missing three straight shots before a steal led to back to back baskets for the 49ers giving them back a 52-51 lead on Oregon with 12 minutes left.

Oregon would use foul shots to retake the lead with Elgin Cook and Casey Benson hitting their shots giving Oregon a 55-52 lead. The Oregon Bench would kick in during the last ten minutes with Oregon Ducks ‘Sixth Man’ Dwayne Benjamin hitting two key three pointers extending the Oregon lead to 64-55. Chris Boucher would be fouled and hit two foul shots to extend the lead to 67-55 with eight and a half remaining.

Long Beach State would find their players getting into foul trouble and giving up foul shots that the Oregon Ducks were more than happy to make. Jordan Bell and Tyler Dorsey would pick up their third fouls of the game with just over 5 minutes to go, but the 49ers would again put the ball in the hands of Dorsey, who hit two free throws putting Oregon up 76-65.
It was another solid Defensive night for Oregon forcing 13 turnovers and capitalizing with 12 points. In the end it came down to free throws and the home team was better hitting at 90 percent on the night. Long Beach State would try to stay in it as the clock wound down. The 49er put up 11 made three point shots on the night.

Travis Hammonds would score 27 on the night before fouling out of the game for Long Beach State. His 8 three pointers on the evening would set a Matthew Knight Arena record.

Oregon would see five players in double figures. Elgin Cook, who started out in early foul trouble finished with 13 points and was 5 for 5 from the free throw line. Dillon Brooks had 20, Tyler Dorsey finished with 17 on the night. Chris Boucher had a quiet double double with 14 rebounds and 10 points.
