Sometimes in the NFL you need a little luck to get an opportunity to show that you have the ability to play at the next level. Sometimes it takes years for that luck to appear, but in the case of former Oregon Ducks Cornerback Troy Hill it was a Christmas gift that fell into his lap. Hill has played in just three games this season for the Cleveland Browns and had six tackles and no sacks and was cut on Thursday according to ProFootballTalk.com, but a better team came calling for his services.
The New England Patriots picked up the U of O Corner because they only have four active and healthy Cornerbacks on the roster. The Patriots have been decimated by injuries in 2015 and the addition of Hill could provide some solid depth for a team that has already clinched a playoff berth, but still has to get through the rest of the regular season and into the post season. Hill could have remained at Oregon for another season in 2015,, but opted to leave Oregon early and enter the National Football League. Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick saw something in Hill and could either use him on the Practice Squad or on the roster. There is also another benefit to Hill – he is healthy and ready for the opportunity.
The New England Patriots visit the New York Jets this weekend. Kickoff is set for 10am Pacific Time.
