Maite Cazorla Leads Oregon Ducks To Win Over Arizona Wildcats

Oregon found a way to win with injuries on  Sunday and defeated the Arizona Wildcats 76-54.

The Oregon Ducks Women’s Basketball team continues to grow under second year Head Coach Kelly Graves. Following a loss to Pac-12 Conference leader Arizona State on Friday night, the Ducks took to the hardwood to face Arizona, who is 2-7 in the Pac-12 Conference this season with Oregon entering the game one better at 3-6. Following the game on Sunday, Oregon will have eight games left to play in the Pac-12 entering the back stretch of the Conference slate for 2015.

Oregon would play without Lexi Petersen who was seen in a boot and on crutches before the game. Jacinta Vandenberg was also on a boot, but walking. The Ducks would be down two three players for the game. Liz Brenner had a tragic loss in her family as her father Douglas passed away from heart attack on Saturday night bringing life’s unfortunate reality into the atmosphere of a basketball game.

Arizona would start with the ball, but Jillan Alleyne would take control early with three inside baskets for six points. With that she would become he 10th player in NCAA history with 2000 points and 1500 rebounds in her career. With five minutes left in the first quarter Oregon was down 9-6. The Ducks would come back to get within two with just under 40 seconds left with a steal from Maite Cazorla and a rebound basket from Alleyne. Cazorla would hit a three pointer at the buzzer at the end of the first quarter to give Oregon an 18-17 lead.

Oregon would hold Arizona to four and a half minute scoring drought to start the 2nd Quarter while putting up two three pointers to extend their lead over the Wildcats. Kat Cooper would enter the break with four three pointers as the Ducks extended their lead to 37-26 over Arizona.

The Ducks would score 14 points off six Arizona turnovers as both teams started the second half.

Lexi Bando would pick up where Kat Cooper left off in the first half with a three pointer. Oregon would own the third quarter putting up __ and extending their lead. Lauren Yearwood showed off some inside presence with a rebound keeping the ball on the Ducks end of the floor midway through the third quarter giving fans a look at what could be for next season.

Oregon would enter the 4th Quarter with an 18 point lead over Arizona.

The Ducks would start the 4th on a 7-2 run pushing their lead to 23 points over Arizona. Oregon would win their fifth Pac-12 Conference game going away. Kat Cooper hit 6 of 9 from beyond the arc for 18 points. Maite Cazorla provided a big inside presence with 23 and Jillian Alleyne added to her double double total with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
