The Oregon Softball team enters play this week in Louisiana ranked 6th in the nation and 5-1 on the season. On Wednesday the team announced a new documentary feature that will follow the team through the 2016 season. ‘Keep It Real’ appears to do just that. It begins with team photos, shows the team doing some ‘team building’ playing Laser Tag and shows the team travelling to their first series of the season in Tempe, Arizona and the Kajikawa Classic.
Every player appears to be featured at some point in the video and the best part, they are being themselves. Starting Pitcher Cheridan Hawkins summarizes starting the season on the road talking about how starting on the road and finishing on the road go hand in hand for this team. The series will offer a week by week account of the season and the first week was good for the Oregon Ducks, albeit with a single loss against Kentucky.
It is Senior leadership that has this team on a roll so far with Hawkins on the mound. Alyssa Gillespie is playing leadoff and setting the table for not just her teammates, but also for herself. She is hitting at .455 to begin the season and will look to stay on a hot streak this weekend. Hawkins had a hiccup against Kentucky in her first loss of the season. Oregon had an opportunity in the end with two on base and two outs, but thee big hit to tie or win the game did not come.
