The Oregon Ducks Baseball team started 2016 with a win on Friday night thanks in part to seven solid innings from Starting Pitcher Cole Irvin and Offensive plays from new combers and veterans.

Irvin scattered six hits through seven innings of work allowing just two Aztecs to get to second base and had nine strikeouts in the first win of the season for George Horton in his sixth season. Freshman Travis Moniot had the Ducks first double of the season and scored the Oregon Ducks first run in the 3rd inning. He also had an RBI in the 9th.

The Oregon Offense had two players with multiple hits with Daniel Patzlaff leading the way.

Closer Stephen Nagosek picked up the win as San Diego State tied the game in the 8th before Oregon’s batters put the game away with six runs in the top of the ninth inning. Irvin proved in one game his value for the season as San Diego State used six pitchers in the game with four of them throwing less than a third of an inning to try to stay in the game against the 14th ranked team in the country.
