For the Oregon Ducks the strength this season is pitching starting with Cole Irvin and Matt Krook and ending with David Petersen. This weekend saw a solid start with Irvin getting the ball for the second game of the series and throwing for a career high 12 strikeouts. Krook returned to form on Saturday giving up just four hits and four runs through seven innings and David Peteresen on Sunday scattered two hits and a run over a full 8 innings. He also struck out 9 Rd Birds.
Illinois State came in as a hotter hitting team and that proved to be true on Saturday night. Oregon lost the game, the only one of the four game series in the ninth inning. George Horton saw his team give up nine walks in the game, but Petersen picked up the ball and got the Ducks back on track with big win on Sunday. Closer Stephen Nagosek picked up two saves over the weekend after spending last season in the bullpen he appears to be rounding into form as a key closer for the Oregon Ducks in 2016.
Stephen Packard started the year 1 for 11 on the road but had a nice homecoming against Illinois State raising his average from .091 to .200 over the four game home stand.
