Last weekend the Oregon Ducks Baseball team had their way on the mound with Illinois State. All three Oregon Ducks Starters were solid with Cole Irvin, Matt Krook and David Petersen dealing and each posting an ERA under 1.00 on the weekend.

Irvin showed flash striking out a career high 12 last Friday night in a win, Matt Krook threw 7 innings and gave up four hits and Peteresen shut the door as Oregon went 2-1 on the weekend, each pitcher threw at least seven innings leading the Oregon Ducks to a 6-1 overall record so far in 2016. George Horton would watch his team pick up some early momentum on a three game series against UC Santa Barbara starting Friday night.

Oregon Starting Pitcher Cole Irvin went 8 strong innings and scattered five hits striking out four. It was his third game of the season throwing seven innings or better. The Oregon Offense stepped up including Phil Craig-St Louis who is out of his season starting slump. He came through in a big way on Friday night.

St-Louis hit a home run that gave him a two run, two RBI day. There was production all around as eight of the nine Starters contributed with a hit leading to a 13-1 final score over UC Santa Barbara. It was a mix of Irvin, the Oregon Ducks Defense, and The Lineup putting together a big Offensive game. Freshman Relief Pitcher Matt Mercer made his Oregon Debut on Friday night.

He came in for the ninth inning striking out the side, but it was the second hitter that caught my eye. Mercer threw a 93 mile per hour fastball. A sign that the future is bright and right now the present looks to be off on a positive and 7-1 start to the season.
