The Oregon Ducks split the first two games of the series with UC Santa Barbara. Following a 12 strikeout performance from Cole Irvin on Friday night and a game where the Oregon Ducks Offense was clicking on all cylinders for a 13-1 win, Saturday saw UC Santa Barbara pick up a 1-0 extra inning victory. The three game series was up for grabs on Sunday afternoon at PK Park.
The Gauchos struck first with a first inning home run, but Oregon came back to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first. Jakob Goldfarb singled to left scoring the tying run. Goldfarb scored two batters later as Stephen Packard reached on a fielders choice giving the Oregon Ducks a 2-1 lead. The Ducks added an insurance run in the third inning. Tim Susnara scored on an error. The weather was the story for the series starting Friday.
First pitch was pushed back to 3pm from a 6pm start and the Saturday start was moved from 2pm to Noon. Sunday looked good until the seventh inning when the weather started to turn. One thing that was not turning was Oregon Ducks Starter David Peterson who through seven innings struck out 13 Gauchos and was one strike away from tying the single game record. He would not have the chance. His day would be done after seven innings. Matt Mercer started the top of the 8th for the Ducks. He would get out of the inning unscathed.
Closer Stephen Nagosek would come in and close out the ninth inning for the Save.
