The Oregon Ducks Baseball team had a rough three game series on the road at Mississippi State over the weekend and were swept by the Bulldogs.

The series opened on a high note on Friday with A.J. Balta opening the game with a two run homerun, but Mississippi State would battle back to win 10-4. Ducks Starter Cole Irvin threw just five innings and gave up five runs, three earned for his first loss of the season. The Saturday result with Matt Krook on the mound for Oregon did not go much better.

Krook could not find the strikezone in the second game of the series and walked three straight batters allowing Mississippi State to open a 5 run lead that Oregon could not recover from. Oregon Ducks hitters struck out swinging 13 times on the day and 27 times overall through the first two games of the series. Mississippi State pitching kept the Ducks off balance as the Bulldogs Offense took care of the second game of the series 9-3.

The finale saw Travis Moniot hit his first career home run for the Oregon Ducks, along with A.J. Balta who brought a hot bat into SEC Country. It was too little, too late as the Bulldogs had a 5 run lead in the game and Oregon’s bats were quieted again sending the 11th ranked Oregon Ducks to a three game losing streak and sinking to 21st in the Division1 Weekly Baseball Poll.
