If you are a fan of Oregon Softball, the memories of Howe Field and the NCAA Tournament games over the last few years there likely made you realize that it was time for something new. It has been under construction since the end of last season when the bulldozers officially took down Howe Field and replaced it with a shiny new Jane Sanders Stadium, set to open on Thursday night when the Oregon Ducks open Pac-12 play with Stanford.
On Social Media, over the last year we have all watched the progress of the new Oregon Softball home being constructed. From the pouring of the cement for the dugouts, to the finishing touches being put on the Press Box. It is impressive. The sight lines are completely different from what was there before. The space is more open, the stadium more dug in. As you walk around the new grounds you can see where the old press box stood. I stopped by just last night and took some photos and smiled.
Thursday night will be the start of something special, something that Oregon Softball has needed for a long time.
The Oregon Ducks were solid through the non-conference slate and just swept past the Washington Huskies opening Pac-12 Conference play on the road last weekend. Jane Sanders Stadium will open with the first home Pac-12 game of the season against Stanford on Thursday night. It is the beginning of an 8 game homestand for the Oregon Ducks in their new home.
