While it is not the NCAA Tournament, the Oregon Ducks Women’s Basketball team is showing they have something to play for. The team has yet to lose a game in the WNIT and beat UTEP on the road in a hostile environment on Monday night. Oregon was down 18 points in the first half, pulled to within 6 at halftime and completed the victory to move on.
Five Oregon Ducks scored in double figures led by Lexi Petersen with 16 points, none bigger than the three pointer she hit from the corner in the final minute of the game to extend the Oregon lead and shot down a run from UTEP. Oregon also had 7 steals on the night. The road environment did not shake Oregon from their goal. The team is now one win away from tying their most in a season at 25 and a win in the WNIT Championship would give the team the most wins in a single season in their history.
Oregon cooled off from three point range hitting 8 of 14 but hit 51 percent from the floor for the game. UTEP came in with just 4 losses on the season and a packed house of over 9000 fans. It was an atmosphere that Oregon has not seen at home this season, and may not have seen all season on the road in the Pac-12 Conference. If the wins keep coming, they will certainly be closer to this type of attendance at home next season.
