Oregon will host Cal this weekend in what could be the biggest home series of the Pac-12 season for the Oregon Ducks.

The Oregon Ducks host the California Golden Bears for three games starting on Friday. The series will be a key to the chances for Oregon to turn things around after a recent slump that saw the team lose two of three in Washington and two games on the road against Notre Dame and Michigan State.

Oregon Head Coach George Horton did watch his team turn things around with a 10-1 win over Portland on Wednesday night, the first game of this four game homestand. Oregon needs to take that momentum into this weekend.

Cal leads the Pac-12 Conference and went 7-1 in their homestand that ended last weekend. The Golden Bears begin a seven game road trip in Eugene and with wins, the Oregon Ducks can make up some critical ground in the Pac-12 race.

Cal Sophomore Catcher Brett Cumberland is hitting .410 and has reached base in all but one game this season for the Golden Bears. He is the one to watch over the weekend. While Oregon is still hitting at the bottom of the Pac-12 Conference the game against the Pilots showed promise moving forward with 10 hits. Kyle Kasser has been shouldering the load for Oregon and is hitting .425 over the last seven games he has started for the Oregon Ducks.

Oregon Pitching started the season on fire, garnering Top 10 attention, but have fallen of late. Starters Cole Irvin, Matt Krook and David Peterson need to get back on track. Following over a week off for two of the three(games last weekend at Michigan State were cancelled due to weather), they should be rested enough to compete this weekend at a high level.

Irvin, the Friday Starter has played in 7 games this season and has a 2.40 ERA. He is 2-2 and will look to get the Ducks off to a good start, but of course the Oregon Offense needs to show up as well. Austin Grebeck leads the team this season hitting just under .300.
