The Oregon Ducks Football team will again honor the Nation’s Military during the Spring Game this weekend, but the Uniform Military theme will have a different take as the team had decided to honor the past.

When you look at the Uniforms that will be worn Saturday they do not reflect the Oregon colors we all are familiar with. The Green, White, and Yellow flash has been replaced with Blue, Gold and White. They go back a century to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the 1916 team’s Rose Bowl win over Penn and the colors came from the State flag according to GoDucks.com. The current colors were adopted in 1925.

The two teams, the Webfoots and Mighty Oregon will take the field on Saturday. 1916 was also the first year of the Oregon March, now the Oregon Fight Song, which will also be 100 years old this year which will be part of the uniform as script on the shirt sleeves.

The most interesting piece, aside from the color change to the Uniform is that the 1916 team won 7 games and lost 1 and went on to win the Rose Bowl. The team was led by Hall of Fame Coach Hugh Bezdek and it was when the Oregon Ducks started to use the forward pass. Things have changed a lot in 100 years.
