Our Oregon Ducks Spring Game focus will zero in on Transfer Quarterback Dakota Prukop. It will be the second straight year that the Oregon Ducks will likely turn to a one-year player following the success of Vernon Adams, Jr in 2015 and three straight seasons of Marcus Mariota leading the charge on Offense.
There is one big difference between Prukop and Adams. Vernon Adams arrived late in Fall Camp to the U of O and missed Spring Practice all together. (we all remember the math test results heard round the Twitterverse). This season Prukop has been in Spring class and Spring Practice and will be on display on Saturday at Autzen Stadium.
Prukop is following in the footsteps of Adams using the Graduate Transfer rule to get from Montana State to Eugene. With the media he has been pretty outspoken since his arrival and appears to be confident running the Oregon Offense through the first three weeks of Spring Practice. The fact that he is here early should translate into good things for Fall for the Oregon Football team.
According to GoDucks.com, he has had more than a handful of highlights in practice:
- Practice Report 4/25: The 1-on-1 passing drill was held in the red zone. Prukop had touchdowns to Brooks-James, Brown and Mitchell, and Brown had a nice over-the-shoulder catch from Taylor Alie.
- Practice Report 4/20: (Offensive Coordinator Matt Lubick) He said Prukop’s game experience while at Montana State shows in certain situations – such as a clutch drill in which he threw incomplete to stop the clock, leaving 2 seconds to kick a field goal – but that command of Oregon’s system still could be improved.
- Practice Report 4/15: To begin the overtime drill, Dakota Prukop and the ones moved the ball but then faced fourth-and-one. He ran for the first down, and two plays later connected with a pitch man for the touchdown prior to the blocked extra point.
It will also be important to watch the chemistry that Prukop has developed with his new team mates over the last month on the football field. Other things to watch include the return of Pharoah Brown(if he plays), and other QB’s including Travis Jonsen.
How will the Defense look under Brady Hoke? I’m not sure how much we will see, but certainly there will be a different look. How will Royce Freeman look entering his Junior year? These are all big questions as we begin another season of Oregon Football and they will be answered in due time.
The Annual Spring Game is set to start at 11am Pacific Time from Autzen Stadium.
