Oregon sent Megan Kleist to the mound in the first game of the NCAA Tournament Regional in Eugene and she came through with a 5 inning

The Oregon Ducks started the 2016 NCAA Tournament on their home field at Jane Sanders Stadium. The circle would not see Cheridan Hawkins to start, but Freshman Megan Kleist who was the 1B to Hawkins 1A for the regular season and did a phenomenal job in the circle helping the Ducks to their 4th straight Pac-12 Title.

Baylor Beats Long Beach State on Walk off From Jessie Scroggins to take the first game of the NCAA Tournament Eugene Regional.

Kleist gave up a hit in the first inning, but the Oregon Defense got her out of trouble taking two grounders and turning them into outs for the Freshman. The Ducks Offense would get off to a good start.

Leadoff hitter Jenna Lilley drew a walk to start the bottom half of the first. She would be thrown out at third, but Koral Costa would single scoring Nikki Udria as Oregon would strike first with one out. The hit parade rolled on as Geri Ann Glasco singled scoring Costa for a 2-0 lead. The Ducks would add another run in the third inning.

Lauren Lindvall would bunt her way on base to start the bottom of the fourth, followed by a hit from Sammie Puentes. Hailey Decker would come to the plate, but a fielders choice had Puentes out at third base. Alyssa Gillespie would double up the right field line scoring another run for the Ducks. Jenna Lilley would hit a pop fly to right scoring the fifth run of the game. Nikki Udria would help Oregon do what they do best, score runs. It was the third run of the inning as Oregon took a 6-0 lead, but they weren’t done with Koral Costa at the plate.

Costa added the 10th hit of the game for Oregon, but three runs on five hits would push the lead and give Megan Kleist some cushion as she returned to the circle to pitch the 5th.

Kleist would find some trouble in the top of the fifth. After a quick first out, Fordham had back to back batters reach base, but the young Oregon Pitcher again leaned on her Defense to force a double play to end the inning.

Oregon would pick up a run rule and an 8-0 win in the fifth inning with two runs scored. The Ducks will face Baylor on Saturday at 2pm PT at Jane Sanders Stadium.
