The Oregon Ducks Baseball team came to play this weekend and have won the first two games against Arizona at PK Park. While our attention has been across campus at Jane Sanders Stadium, with Oregon Softball in the NCAA Tournament, George Horton has found a way to turn things around after a roller coaster season. One of the big reasons is Closer Stephen Nagosek who picked up back to back saves on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday it was pitching as Starter Cole Irvin threw 7 1/3 innings and struck out six of the first seven batters he faced, giving the Ducks Offense an opportunity for an early lead. The Ducks took the lead in third, 1-0 and added an insurance run in the fourth.
Nagosek has been asked several times in the last month to come in and perform beyond an inning, and he came through again on Friday throwing an inning and 2/3 and lowering his ERA on the year to 0.96. It was one of the faster games this season as Oregon dispatched Arizona in two and a half hours.
Saturday saw David Peterson on the mound for Oregon, and Tim Susnara was the hero late in the game providing an Offensive punch to a 4-2 win. Again, Nagosek came in to close the door for the series victory, which was critical to the Oregon Ducks post season chances.
The Oregon Ducks will look to take the three game series over Arizona on Sunday, Senior Day for Phil Craig-St Louis, Jack Karraker, Nick Cattalano, Stephen Packard and Matt Eureste.
