Five Oregon Ducks were selected in the MLB Draft over the weekend and the first of the five has made the decision to begin their professional career, leaving College and the University of Oregon behind. The success of the Oregon Ducks Closer Stephen Nogosek has been well documented this season. He was named to numerous watch lists as the season went on and now he is a member of the Boston Red Sox Organization.
Nogosek will begin his career at Single A for the Lowell Spinners, and while his name is not yet listed on their roster, the tweet he sent out earlier today, showing a Red Sox hat and glove, showed that his talented young man is ready to move on.
For the Oregon Ducks in 2016 Stephen Nogosek finished the year with a 1.11 Earned Run Average for the 29-26 Ducks. He was 2-2 with 16 saves and held opponents to hitting under .200 for the year. His succcess in 2016 allowed his decision to leave the Ducks to be an easy one. He honestly had nothing left to prove. Unfortunately for much of the season, the Oregon Offense, which started out solid, could not find a rhythn, leading to an up and down season.
The Oregon Ducks pitching staff ran into a similar problem, and used several attempts to right the ship in Pac-12 Conference season, but it was too little too late for a shot at the post season and an NCAA bid. Still, Nogosek was rewarded for a solid season and has moved to the Professional level.
