The Oregon Ducks have had a rough season on the Diamond. They made a hard push at the end, but saw the 2015-16 season fall short of the NCAA Tournament and a chance at getting to Omaha for the College World Series. On Thursday, they lost another big piece of the team in Assistant Coach Mark Wasikowski.
Purdue announced the hire of Wasikowsi as their new Head Coach on Friday. He leaves a pretty big opening on the Oregon Coaching Staff. He was not only the key assistant to Head Coach George Horton, he was also Recruiting Coordinator for the Ducks. Wasikowsi has spent the last five seasons in Eugene. From 2012-2014 the Ducks were among the nation’s elite winning 40 games in each season. Preparation for the future was also a key to his position.
He has helped more than a handful of young men prepare for the next level of their career as professionals. While with the Oregon Ducks, 23 players were selected in the MLB Draft according to the release.
"I believe Mark Wasikowski is one of the brightest, up-and-coming baseball coaches in the country. There is no doubt that Mark will make a huge impact as the new leader at Purdue. We will miss Coach Waz and wish him great fortune.Oregon Head Coach George Horton on Mark Wasikowski (via Purdue Athletics)"
