Just as the Decathalon was the story of the 2012 Olympic Trials for Eugene’s Ashton Eaton, the 110 Meter Hurdles may be the highlight moment for Oregon in the 2016 Olympic Track and Field Trials. Allen ran a near perfect race clipping just three hurdles and picking up his pace in the end for a finish in 13.13 seconds, the second best in the World this year in the event.
Devon Allen will lead the team to Rio for the Olympic Games. The ninth day of competition also saw a near nabbing of the third spot of the 5000 Meter final at the finish line by Erik Jenkins. The race was won by Bernard Legat who at 41 is still going strong. The Oregon Women also had quite the showing on Saturday.
In the Women’s 200 Meter Semi Finals, Jenna Prandini and Arianna Washington finished 1-2 in the first heat. The surprise of the event was Deajah Stevens who outpaced the field by a third of a second in the end pulling away to win her heat. All three advanced to the 200 Meter Final set for Sunday as one of the eight finals on the day.
Devon Allen has said he will return from Rio and get in ten practices and should rejoin his football teammates in time for the first game against UC Davis.
Through Day 9, seven Oregon Ducks have punched their ticket to Rio and the Summer Olympics. More have a chance on Sunday as the Olympic Trials come to a close.
