Ryon Healy has been heating up this season and had a breakout two hit performance in the MLB All Star Futures Game last week in San Diego.

It looks like the Oakland A’s Brass has taken notice. On Friday, he was called to the Majors according to Athletics Nation, the first former Oregon Duck player on Offense to get the call. Pitcher Tyler Anderson was called up by the Colorado Rockies earlier this summer and picked up his first win last week against Philadelphia, but back to Healy.
The former Oregon Duck is hitting at a .326 with 14 home runs and 31 walks. His walks led the Minor Leagues for a good part of this Short season as opposing pitchers either did not know what to do with him, or they were a virtue of his patience at the plate and made them work.
It is not much of a surprise to me that Ryon Healy is getting an opportunity, but keep in mind it may lead to a business decision and a trade being made. There is currently a logjam of sorts in the infield and the A’s currently have a Center Fielder who is underperforming in Billy Burns. The move may in fact be an audition for a starting role if the team decides to move Burns and can find a suitor according to the article.

Ryon Healy’s performance over the last two months has gotten the attention of the decision makers. Let’s hope he can get into the lineup, build some chemistry with his team mates and provide some power to push the Oakland A’s into the second half. They are currently 12 games out and will look to close the gap for the Wildcard spot.
