Could The City of Portland Oregon Host The 2028 Summer Olympics?

A new website is looking at the possibility of hosting the 2028 Summer Olympics in Portland, Oregon. Is it realisitic?

The University of Oregon has hosted the Olympic Track and Field Trials, most recently from 2008 to 2016 with great success. Now, a new website has appeared with a big goal in mind, not for Eugene and the surrounding area, but to host the Olympic Games within the State of Oregon, in the City of Portland.

Oregon2028.com lays out the plan, in specific detail. There is plenty of time to build the necessary venues to host the events. At the conclusion of the games, the venues will be downsized and used for the local community for local sports events in the case of the Stadium. The Swimming and Diving center would be a new community center. These, just a few of the examples listed on the site.

The economic boom from the event is also not overlooked with boosts to technology and infrastructure, down to a new suburban neighborhood set to thrive at the conclusion of the event. It is being billed as ‘A Different Kind Of Olympics’, but is it realistic?

The City of Portland is about the same size as Barcelona and Atlanta, two cities that were host sites over the last twenty plus years. It is possible, and you already have Tracktown USA right down the road. The project has been set at $10 Billion to host, but the revenue and exposure would be worth it. Right?2028

Is it a realistic idea when larger cities like Los Angeles are pushing to host in future years? The concept is solid as far as I’m concerned, but in a bid for the Olympics, I would think that the State of Oregon would be overlooked for a City with more glitz. The future sites of Tokyo and Beijing are the perfect example.

Portland, Oregon, at least right now, is not on the same playing field, but twelve years may be enough time to get there.
