When it comes to the name Eaton, it will now forever be Athletic Royalty. Oregon’s Native Son has taken the Decathalon not just twice, but four times over the last four years, if you include the Olympic Trials in the equation. In this case, I do since the body has about a month to prepare before doing the ten events again.
The icing on the cake however may not be with Ashton, but with is wife Brianne Thiesen-Eaton. She pushed her way through a tough first day to earn a Bronze in the Heptathalon last week.
According to GoDucks.com, Ashton Eaton is likely done with competition in the Decathalon, but did not rule out a 2020 return, “I’m not quite sure what’s next. It has been a pleasure doing everything I’ve done to this point.”
At this point, his chance of competing again are less than 50 percent.
Ashton Eaton also tied the Olympic Record set back in 2004 and completed his bucket list so to speak after shattering the Olympic Trials and setting a World Record, at the time back in 2012 at Hayward Field in Eugene.

Eaton had French and Canadian competition during the two days of the Rio Decathalon, but in the end nothing was getting in his way of the Gold. He started Day 2 on a roll and finished with a 1500 Meter win sealing the Gold Medal and becoming just the third athlete in Olympics History to earn back to back Gold Medals in the Decathalon.
Ashton Eaton is again the World’s Greatest Athlete.
