2016 Olympics: Galen Rupp Earns Marathon Bronze On Final Day
Former Oregon Distance Runner Galen Rupp made his mark on the World Stage on Sunday, in the Olympic Marathon.

In 2012 at the Olympic Trials in Eugene, it was the 5000 Meter Final that had a more than epic finish with Galen Rupp battling Bernard Legat to the finish line. The Olympic Trials in 2016 saw Rupp attempt to do the 5000 meter and 10000 meter double. The former Oregon Duck took the 10,000 in Eugene. He fell short in the 5000 meters.. Galen Rupp also qualified for the Olympic Marathon and on Sunday added another medal to the Oregon tally with a third place finish.
Rupp crossed the finish line in 2:10.05, He is the first American to medal in the evenr since 2004.With the conclusion of the Summer Olympic Games, not only was Oregon well represented with the most medals in school history, but the Pac-12 Conference was also well represented.
Highlights of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio included Ashton Eaton taking back to back Olympic Titles, English Gardner earning gold in the 4×100 Relay team, and Matthew Centrowitz earning gold in the 1500 Meters on Sunday. Devon Allen had an experience during the Olympics earning a 5th place finish in the 110 Meter Hurdles.
Allen will return to the University of Oregon this week to prepare for the upcoming football season that is set to begin on Saturday, September 3rd.
