Oregon Ducks In MLB: Cole Irvin Impressing in Single A

The Philadelphia Phillies drafted more than a handful of arms and Cole Irvin is making the most of his opportunity early.

Cole Irvin had eligibility remaining with the Oregon Ducks, but let that go for a chance at a Professional Career and so far he is making strides toward the Majors with the Phillies. Irvin has been through a lot in his pitching career, including Tommy John surgery when he was at Oregon and now is playing the best baseball of his young career.

According to Philiedelphia.com who recently checked in on the Phillies Draft picks, Irvin has established himself as a key Starter, “Irvin has appeared in eight games for the Crosscutters, five of which have been starts, and he’s gone 4-1 with a 2.08 ERA, issuing just four walks in 34.2 innings of work.  Irvin has yet to allow more than two runs in any outing this season.” Irvin is with the Phillies Williamsport SIngle A Affiliate.

Cole Irvin has shown to be durable which can only help as he moves up the Phillies Farm system. As the Philadelphia season is winding down, I don’t expect Irvin to be a trade piece to build toward the future. Irvin could a be a key player for the team to build around. If he continues to impress he could see a call up to the majors in a few seasons.
