Team USA is looking for your vote for the ‘Best of the Games’ in several categories including Male and Female Athletes as well as a Team Award. Former Oregon Duck Mathew Centrowitz, who won the 1500 Meter Gold Medal, and became the first American to do it in over 100 years qualified for the honor.
I’m not sure what the qualifications were, but Ashton Eaton and Devon Allen should have made the ‘Best of the Games’ list. Perhaps I’m a little biased.
The Summer Games were good not only for the United States, but for the Pac-12. Athletes affiliated with the Conference put on a show in Rio De Janiero picking up 25 Gold Medals and 55 overall. If the Pac-12 were a country, they would have ranked 5th in the World. Not bad considering Oregon kept up the Tracktown USA Mantra in full during the games with competition from Eaton, Centrowitz, English Gardner, Deajah Stevens, Arianna Washington, Devon Allen and Phyllis Francis.
The voting for best athletic performance runs through September 6th. Other notable athletes on the list include Michael Phelps, Simone Biles, Katie Ledecky, and the Women’s 4×100 Relay team.
