I guess it was just a matter of time. Over the last few seasons of non-conference games that did not mean much, the games that would be blow out wins to start the year rather than Games of the Year like Michigan State or Oklahoma or Stanford or USC. 110 Games is nothing to sneeze at.
The Oregon Ducks home, Autzen Stadium had the third longest sellout streak in the country behind Nebraska and Notre Dame. 110 Games, is 17 seasons worth of football. Think of the reasons to be at Autzen. Marcus Mariota is the name that comes to mind first and foremost, but there were so many before he was a household name. In the last few years things have dwindled.
Fans have had other ways to watch their beloved Oregon Ducks, whether it is at home in front of their big screen with a beer not too far away, or watching/listening online away from the madness of having to pay $6 for that beer. The Autzen faithful will continue to come watch their Ducks and this season there are plenty of reasons to show up as we saw on Saturday.
The tally on Saturday was 53,817 and Total Occupancy is set at 54,000. So close, but if the team can win on the field, a new streak should soon start for the Oregon Ducks at Autzen Stadium.
