Oregon Head Coach Mark Helfrich compared the loss last week to a train wreck. Following the three-point loss to Colorado at Autzen Stadium last weekend, the team prepared to head north to Washington State to take on Mike Leach and his Air Raid Offense. The 2-2 Ducks took time to get back to basics in preparation for the challenge ahead of them.
Quarterback Dakota Prukop said earlier this week his focus was on execution. Helfrich said he has the team prepared for the game ahead of them, “The biggest thing right now is getting over the hump of doing your job great for every single snap…we’ve had progress, but progress has resulted in 2/3 point losses. Getting over that hump is big for some guys.”
Oregon Defensive Coordinator Brady Hoke said the team was back at this week following a player only meeting. The results were obvious in Practice, “The kids had a good week, worked hard. We continue to make improvements. We just have to take it to the field on Saturday.”
Troy Dye said there were times in practice this week that things felt more ‘cut throat’ as far as Defensive Pressure. We will see if that translates against Washington State.
"Being that close is equal parts frustrating and equal parts encouraging.Oregon Head Coach Mark Helfrich on the Ducks two losses."
The Cougars Offense is complicated, but simple at the same time. It is the beauty of what Mike Leach has created and shared around the Country. Helfrich talked X’s and O’s, “It’s so good its brilliantly simple how they change their formations and execute. (You have to) change it up enough so that it’s difficult for him(Falk) and simple enough for our guys.”
The Oregon Ducks will have some Offensive weapons back as Royce Freeman and Pharoah Brown return to the lineup. Oregon and Washington State kickoff at 6:30pm Pacific Time on Pac-12 Network.
