The Oregon Ducks brought a 11 game winning streak into the match with the eighth ranked Washington Huskies on Friday night. The first set saw Oregon fight with several big rallies but Washington took the first set 25-20. The momentum swung Oregon’s way briefly, but the task of getting back into the game would be big. The Huskies also took the second set. Through two sets, Taylor Agost and Lindsay Vander Weide led Oregon with 4 kills each.
The Huskies found a lead in each of the first two sets and would not let Oregon get within more than two points leading 2-0 at the break. Courney Schwan had 10 kills and 2 blocks to lead Washington.
The third set saw a tight match until Oregon hit two balls wide giving the Huskies an 8-6 lead. The Ducks fought back for a point. Kara Bajema joined Schwan with double digit kills in the third set as Washington built a lead and saw Oregon again try and fight back at 15-13.
The Oregon Ducks did not appear sharp in the third set and lost two points off deflections before Head Coach Jim Moore called the second timeout of the set. Jolie Rasmussen would roll off back to back points to pull the Ducks within one at 17-16. Oregon kept it close till the end of the set, but lost in the end.
